We start presenting an overview on recent applications of linear polymers and networks in condensed matter physics, chemistry biology by briefly discussing selected papers (published within 2022-2024) some detail. They are organized into three main subsections: physics (further subdivided simulations coarse-grained models structural properties materials), (quantum mechanical calculations, environmental issues rheological viscoelastic composites) (macromolecules, proteins biomedical applications). The core the work is devoted to a review theoretical aspects polymers, with emphasis self-avoiding walk (SAW) chains, regular lattices both deterministic random fractal structures. Values critical exponents describing structure SAWs different environments updated whenever available. case structures modeled percolation clusters at criticality, issue multifractality, which typical these complex systems, illustrated. Applications suggested, references known results literature provided. A detailed discussion reptation method its many interesting problem protein folding evolution also considered, key open questions highlighted. include experimental section introduces most relevant this work. last two sections dedicated applications, one materials science, such as features plasma-treated polymeric surfaces growth polymer thin films, second biology, considering among others long DNA, confined finite domain.
