Seismic isolation systems play a crucial role in enhancing structural resilience during earthquakes, with lead rubber bearings being widely adopted solution. These incorporate cores to effectively dissipate seismic energy. However, their widespread application is constrained by significant drawbacks, including high costs and environmental concerns associated lead. This study introduces novel sustainable S-shaped steel damper made from standard steel. The influence of key geometrical parameters—thickness, width, the distance bolt hole arc’s start—on cyclic behavior dampers was investigated. Seven prototypes were designed, manufactured, experimentally tested evaluate horizontal stiffness damping performance. Subsequentially, experimental results considered for validation numerical model based on full 3D Finite Element discretization. model, calibrated using simple uniaxial material tests, facilitates identification optimal geometric features production without need extensive prototype fabrication testing. Additionally, can be seamlessly integrated into future analyses, enabling comprehensive evaluation performance characteristics. In conclusion, this research provides critical insights optimization as cost-effective dissipation devices. It offers both data robust guide designs improved mitigation performances.
