Silicate glasses are not only used for everyday items such as windows or drinking glasses. By altering their composition, one can adjust properties to allow them become degradable and help regenerate bone. Here, we investigate how compositional changes from conventional soda lime silicate low-silica content compositions affect structure properties. Results show that network polymerisation, known connectivity, controls many properties, including viscosity, which is relevant processing, reactivity in aqueous environments. Correlating our data with vivo results the literature, connectivity represented by modifier non-bridging oxygen concentration, us turn bioinert into bioactive materials enhance bone formation.
