TiO2 exists naturally in three crystalline forms: Anatase, rutile, brookite, and (B). These polymorphs exhibit different properties consequently photocatalytic performances. This paper aims to clarify the differences between titanium dioxide polymorphs, homophase, biphase, triphase various applications. However, homophase has disadvantages such as high recombination rates low adsorption capacity. Meanwhile, heterophase can effectively stimulate electron transfer from one phase another causing superior performance. Abstract TiO 2 , as a benchmark in the field of ultraviolet photocatalysis, is one most widely used semiconductor photocatalysts. However, its inherent drawbacks, including wide bandgap and fast recombination charge carriers, lead to underutilization solar light. Increasing overall spectrum utilization especially near‐infrared region (NIR, ≈52%), key efficient energy conversion. In this review, strategies enhance NIR light capture ‐based photocatalysts, hybridization with narrow optical gap semiconductors, engineering, upconversion materials, plasmonic photosensitizers, are elaborated. The basic mechanisms for conversion employed by preparation methods photoactive materials summarized. Furthermore, their applications photocatalytic pollutants purification, hydrogen oxygen evolution, multifunctional smart windows, nitrogen photofixation, well carbon dioxide photoreduction disinfection discussed.
