Diacids are important monomers in the polymer industry to construct valuable materials. Dicarboxylation of unsaturated bonds, such as alkenes and alkynes, with CO2 has been demonstrated a promising synthetic method. However, dicarboxylation C─C single bonds rarely investigated. Herein we report novel electrochemical ring-opening strained rings CO2. Structurally diverse glutaric acid adipic derivatives were synthesized from substituted cyclopropanes cyclobutanes moderate high yields. In contrast oxidative ring openings, this is also first realization an electroreductive reaction rings, including commercialized ones. Control experiments suggested that radical anions carbanions might be key intermediates reaction. Moreover, process features step atom economy, mild conditions (1 atm, room temperature), good chemoselectivity functional group tolerance, low electrolyte concentration, easy derivatization products. Furthermore, conducted polymerization corresponding diesters diols obtain potential UV-shielding material self-healing function fluorine-containing polyester, whose performance tests showed applications.

Paper-based materials have been widely used in packaging replacing nonbiodegradable fossil-based polymers due to the increasing concerns on environmental pollution. However, paper is hygroscopic and its mechanical strength dramatically reduced presence of moisture. The current hydrophobic modification via polymer coating hinders recycling paper. A sustainable approach was proposed prepare superhydrophobic cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) by anchoring octadecylamine (ODA) surface CNCs self-polymerization tannic acid Michael addition/Schiff base reaction between polytannic acid-coated (PTA@CNCs) ODA. obtained ODA–PTA@CNCs could be well dispersed ethanol sprayed onto different substrates form coatings, such as paper, cotton, polyurethane. outstanding superhydrophobicity attributed low energy ODA multiscale roughness CNC nanorods. promising applications waterproof paper-based packaging, antifouling breathable textile, semipermeable membrane, oil–water separation, Janus actuators were demonstrated. Furthermore, durability confirmed abrasion washing tests. Overall, are versatile coatings their facile preparation, biodegradability, convenience, durability.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the primary cause of various skin diseases, necessitating need for UV protection. Topical sunscreens are most commonly used method to achieve this. However, traditional sunscreen formulations have limitations that hinder their widespread use. Thanks advancements in nanotechnology, new nanotechnology-based been developed, addressing these limitations. The review explores different nanosystems utilized formulations, including polymeric nanoparticles, liposomes, nanostructure lipid carriers, solid nanoemulsions, hydrogels, nanocrystals, mesoporous silica particles, niosomes, ethosomes, transfersomes, transethosomes, and sunspheres. These enhance safety effectiveness sunscreens, improving distribution, photostability, SPF, UVA protection, water resistance. Combinational which combine multiple active ingredients, also discussed. They offer broad-spectrum protection against UVB radiation, providing comprehensive sun article reviews evaluation methods such as SPF measures level while indicates defense radiation. Water resistance assesses sunscreen's durability after exposure or sweat. Additionally, addresses safety, regulation, challenges associated with nanosystem-based sunscreens. Safety considerations regulatory frameworks ensure products' human health environment. Formulation stability, potential toxicity concerns, lack public awareness discussed challenges. Microcapsulation of phase change materials (PCMs) within a shell is one the most feasible methods to explore their applications for thermal energy storage. Here, facile method microencapsulate PCMs polystyrene/cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) hybrid via Pickering emulsion polymerization was developed. CNCs, as biobased and sustainable hydrolyzed from wood pulp, were employed emulsifiers PCM components microcapsules well. CNCs displayed high efficiency in stabilization paraffin wax (PW) emulsion, heat capacity stability PW with CNC (PW@CNC) increased dramatically amounts CNCs. polystyrene (PW@PS/CNC) prepared styrene stabilized droplets. The PW@PS/CNC slurries possessed latent 31.9 J/g 99.4% after 100 heating cooling scans. powder 160.3 J/g, corresponding encapsulation ratio 83.5%. Moreover, coconut oil (CO), an example PCMs, also microencapsulated (CO@PS/CNC) similar method. Both CO@PS/CNC excellent temperature regulation ability offered promising potentials storage systems.
