Acute kidney injury (AKI) is the sudden decrease in renal function that can be attributed to dysregulated reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and impaired mitochondrial function. Irisin, a type I membrane protein secreted by skeletal muscles response physical activity, has been reported alleviate damage through regulation of biogenesis oxidative metabolism. In this study, macrophage membrane-coated metal-organic framework (MCM@MOF) developed as nanocarrier for encapsulating irisin overcome inherent characteristics irisin, including short circulation time, limited kidney-targeting ability, low permeability. The engineered irisin-mediated biomimetic nanotherapeutics have extended time enhanced targeting capability toward injured kidneys due preservation proteins. irisin-encapsulated effectively mitigate acute ischemia-reperfusion protecting modulating SOD2 levels tubular epithelial cells. present study provides novel insights advance development potential therapeutic approach AKI.

ABSTRACT Kidney diseases, characterized by renal dysfunction, are the leading causes of death worldwide. It is crucial to prevent and treat kidney diseases reduce their associated morbidity mortality. Moderate physical exercise has been recognized be advantageous for health. Irisin an exercise‐induced myokine that was identified in 2012. plays important role energy bone metabolism, oxidative stress reduction, anti‐inflammatory processes, cell inhibition, cardiovascular protection. However, relationship between irisin have not fully elucidated. This review explores as a biomarker disease diagnosis its complications, well mechanisms through which it participates various pathways, such apoptosis, autophagy, pyroptosis, ferroptosis.
