As the core area of emotion regulation, amygdala is involved in and regulates many related behaviors, such as fear, anxiety, depression, well reward, learning, memory. Most previous connectional studies have focused on anterior middle parts basolateral nucleus (BL) basomedial (BM) amygdala. Little known about brain-wide connections posterior part BL BM (termed parvicellular subdivision BM, i.e., BLpc BMpc). In this study, afferent efferent projections BMpc rats are investigated using both retrograde anterograde tracing methods. Both common differential revealed. Major inputs regions originate from ventral hippocampal CA1 prosubiculum, sublenticular extended amygdala, nucleus, midline thalamic nuclei, endopiriform dorsal raphe, piriform cortex lateral entorhinal cortex. The receives preferential agranular insular cortex, amygdalopiriform transition area, periaqueductal gray, parataenial cortical preferentially its peripeduncular paraventricular thalamus, ventromedial hypothalamic (VMH), caudal bed stria terminalis (BST), medial amygdaloid outputs also obvious. projects mainly to accumbens, rostral BST, central (Ce), intermediate BM. sends main VMH, Ce, perirhinal-ectorhinal cortices. These major findings further confirmed with viral mice. Compared monkeys, our rodents suggest that overall similar patterns across species. addition, some gene markers for subdivisions identified. All these would provide an important anatomical basis understanding emotion-related neuronal circuits diseases cross-species comparison subcircuits complex.
