Abstract Obstructive sleep apnea is a globally prevalent concern with significant health impacts, especially when coupled comorbidities. Accurate detection and localization of airway obstructions are crucial for effective diagnosis treatment, which remains challenge traditional monitoring methods. Here, we report catheter-based flexible pressure sensor array that continuously monitors soft tissue in the upper facilitates at millimeter level. The sensor’s design versatile 3D femtosecond laser fabrication process enable adaptation to diverse materials applications. In vitro testing demonstrates high sensitivity (38.1 Ω/mmHg) excellent stability. effectively distributed accurately identifies an obstructive animal model. this work, highlight potential long-term, continuous its prospective applications other medical devices measurement human body cavities.

Chronic intermittent hypoxia (IH) is one of the hallmark features obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and adversely affects neurocognitive behavioral functioning. However, how duration IH correlates with its deleterious effects remains unexplored. We aimed to assess over a prolonged period time mimicking untreated OSA. Male C57Bl/6J mice were exposed for 96 weeks. Sleep activity was acquired using piezoelectric system. Novel object recognition (NOR) elevated plus maze test (EPMT) conducted as measures cognitive function anxiety, respectively. Brain inflammation evaluated by panel marker assays. All tests performed after 16 weeks exposure. After weeks, percentages during dark phase decreased in both room air (RA) compared 16-week exposure (RA: p = 0.0214; IH: 0.0188). In addition age-dependent declines NOR performance, had lower preference scores than RA controls (p 0.0070). The spent open arms EPMT reduced RA. Inflammatory expression increased IH-exposed mice. Thus, aging induce similar alterations sleep, cognition, neuroinflammation. are exacerbated concurrent IH, suggesting that OSA disease associated an acceleration biological aging.

Abstract Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and obesity are highly prevalent bidirectionally associated. OSA is underrecognized, however, particularly in women. By mechanisms that overlap with those of obesity, increases the risk developing, or having poor outcomes from, comorbid chronic disorders impairs quality life. Using 2 illustrative cases, we discuss relationships between type diabetes, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease, cognitive disturbance, mood disorders, lower urinary tract symptoms, sexual function, reproductive disorders. The differences men women, phenotypic variability OSA, highlighted. When probability high due to consistent comorbidities, both, a diagnostic study advisable. Continuous positive airway pressure mandibular advancement splints improve symptoms. Benefits for comorbidities variable depending on nightly duration use. contrast, weight loss optimization lifestyle behaviors consistently beneficial.

Despite undeniable advances in modern medicine, lung cancer still has high morbidity and mortality rates. Lung is preventable treatable, it important to identify new risk factors for cancer, especially those that can be treated or reversed. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) a very common sleep-breathing disorder grossly underestimated clinical practice. It cause, exacerbate, worsen adverse outcomes, including death various diseases, but its relationship with unclear. A possible causal between OSA the onset progression of been established biologically. The pathophysiological processes associated OSA, such as fragmentation, intermittent hypoxia, increased sympathetic nervous excitation, may affect normal neuroendocrine regulation, impair immune function (especially innate cellular immunity), ultimately contribute occurrence accelerate progression, induce treatment resistance. contributor cause cancer. The aim this study was investigate the association non-dipping BP pattern new-onset diabetes hypertensive patients OSA, based on Urumqi Research Sleep Apnea Hypertension (UROSAH) data. Materials methods This retrospective cohort included 1841 at least 18 years age, who were diagnosed OSA without baseline had adequate ambulatory monitoring (ABPM) data enrollment. exposure interest for present patterns, including dipping pattern, outcome defined as time from diabetes. associations between assessed using Cox proportional hazard models. Results Among participants (mean age: 48.8 ± 10.5 years, 69.1% male), during total follow-up 12172 person-years a median 6.9 (inter quartile range: 6.0-8.0) 217 developed an incidence rate 17.8 per 1000 person-years. proportion non-dippers dippers enrollment 58.8% 41.2%, respectively. Non-dippers higher risk compared (full adjusted ratio [HR]=1.53, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.14-2.06, P =0.005). Multiple subgroup sensitivity analyses yielded similar results. We further explored systolic diastolic separately, that HR=1.54, CI: 1.12-2.10, =0.008), whereas non-dippers, nonsignificant after confounding covariates HR=1.35, 0.98-1.86, =0.070).
