A palladium catalytic method has been developed for the coupling of amides and cyclopropanols to γ-diketones. Heteroatom ligand exchange heteroatom-to-carbon ligation mode switch provide mechanistic basis avoiding use any stoichiometric organometallic reagent base. The molecular cross-coupling reactivity can be programmed through adjustment structural context surrounding amide N-atom, enabling establishment a set order chemistry. With chemistry set, collection transformations with defined (especially quantitative) relations, as fundamental synthetic planning unit, programming strategy, chemistry, envisioned. γ-diketone synthesis further elaborated into an alkyl-alkyl protocol, furnishing alternative surrogate scheme this to-a-certain-extent challenging reaction.
