Aqueous zinc-iodine batteries (AZIBs) are attractive energy storage systems with the features of low cost, sustainability, and efficient multielectron transfer mechanism. However, I2 cathodes face obstacles due to sluggish redox kinetics severe shuttle effect. Herein, atomically dispersed selenium single atoms (Se SAs) embedded in ZIF-8-derived nitrogen-doped carbon. This design not only triggers rapid conversion but also enhances anchoring polyiodides, thereby enabling excellent lifespan rate capability Zn-I2 battery. Specifically, Se SAs N dopants on carbon achieve a I2/I- couple reaction via modulation barrier, as revealed by situ results coupled density functional theory analysis. work demonstrates application atomic synergy facilitating reversible iodine species provides valuable insights into designing hosts for next-generation AZIBs.
