Host-guest dynamic systems in coordination-driven metallo-organic cages have gained significant attentions since their promising applications chiral separation, drug delivery, and catalytical fields. To maximize guest-binding affinity, hosts adopting multiple conformations are widely investigated on structural flexibility for guest accommodation. In this study, a novel cage S with breathing inner cavity freely twisted side chains was proposed. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses depicted characteristic "breathing-helical" system the semiflexible framework, which led to an unprecedent co-crystallisation of racemic symmetric via encapsulation locking C

Abstract Metal‐organic cages (MOCs) are supramolecular coordination complexes that have internal cavities for hosting guest molecules and exhibiting various properties. However, the functions of MOCs limited by choice building blocks. Post‐synthetic modification (PSM) is a technique can introduce new functional groups replace existing ones on without changing their geometry. Among many PSM methods, covalent promising approach to modify with tailored structures functions. Covalent be applied either cavity or external surface MOCs, depending functionality expected customized. there still some challenges limitations in field such as balance between stability harshness organic reactions involved PSMs. This concept article introduces reaction types applications after modification, summarizes provides an outlook this research field.

Metal–organic cages (MOCs) with luminophores have significant advantages for the facile detection of specific molecules based on turn-on or turn-off luminescence changes induced by host–guest complexation. One important challenge is development turn-on-type near-infrared (NIR)-luminescent MOCs. In this study, we synthesized a novel MOC consisting two porphyrin dyes linked four Yb(III) complexes, which exhibit bimodal red and NIR fluorescence signals upon photoexcitation π system. Single-crystal X-ray structural analysis computational molecular modeling revealed that planar aromatic perfluorocarbons were intercalated into MOC. The tight packing between guests enhanced suppressing energy transfer from photoexcited to oxygen molecules. Guest-responsive in an successfully demonstrated.
