Peptide-based folding systems have intriguing features with a variety of advanced applications. Abstract Rotaxanes and catenanes have proven to be key structures in the development of artificial molecular machines with a variety applications. Among them, study modulation optical properties, mainly light emission, been widely explored. The growing interest chiral mechanically interlocked molecules has enabled this research extended chiroptical particular circularly polarized luminescence. In review, we discuss progress on topic, from seminal examples number reported very recent years. Both rotaxanes fixed or static CPL response are reviewed, but also designs that exploit switching mechanisms by these architectures modulate switch their both solution and/or aggregate solid state.
