In order to develop biobased epoxy resins with superior performance, this study highlights the synthesis, characterization, and properties of a thymol-derived novolac related thermosets. Thymol is cocondensated 2,6-bis(hydroxymethyl)-p-cresol under catalysis an acidic ion-exchange resin yield (TPF) in easy controllable way. TPF found mainly consist condensation products three phenolic nuclei including two from thymol one connected methylene bridges. Then, efficiently converted into titled (TEP) through O-glycidation. TEP curative (4,4′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (44DDS) or methyl nadic anhydride (MNA)) are formed together afford thermosets expressing highly desirable such as high Tg low water absorption. A correlation established between thermosetting network structures their exhibited Tg, thermal stability, dynamic thermomechanical, dielectric adhesion properties, solvent resistance, diffusivity, Furthermore, used for TEP, result TEP/TPF thermoset significantly increased content blocks. This exhibits even very uptake (<1%), decreased density, good (>10 MPa), well moderate heat resistance (Tg = 136 °C). To conclude, could be readily prepared more controlled manner, based exhibit multiple interest tunability ultimate providing robust candidate performance-advantaged, value-added applications advance sustainable chemistry technology.
