Purpose Circularity has acted as an essential phenomenon for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in emerging economies, pressuring entrepreneurs to its adoption their businesses. During the implementation of circularity, or circular (to be precise) are facing various challenges effective functioning. However, scholarly literature offered limited research into this phenomenon. Thus, purpose is identify barriers sub-barriers adopt circularity SMEs economies. Design/methodology/approach A combined qualitative quantitative approach was employed achieve objectives study. In first stage, through extensive review, a list identified second deductive finalize barriers. Finally, Best-Worst Method (BWM), multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method, used analyse significant importance Findings The findings study suggested “financial barrier” first-ranked barrier Circular Business Models (CBMs), followed by “regulatory operational top third terms sub-barriers, “lack access funding capital” been sub-barrier CBM, “excessive regulations red tape” “challenges due ambiguity concept”. Practical implications To transition from linear business considerably quicker smoother, may utilize blueprint steps overcome transition. Abstract Circular economy (CE) is an economic model designed to substitute the take-make-dispose linear with a regenerative system. Business management has critical role in translating CE into practice. Extant research on CE, while expanding rapidly, remains fragmented and lacks holistic perspective. Through bibliographic coupling, technique that identifies emergent trends rather than past traditions literature, we analyse current state of business develop agenda for future research. Six streams emerge: strategy, learning innovation, consumer behaviour remanufacturing, supply chains implementation, circular models, industrial symbiosis, emerging technologies. content analysis explore gaps, providing more comprehensive overview prior studies. Moreover, identify promising paths research, focused around three overarching questions provide platform accelerate impact adoption proliferation practices future.

Abstract Small firms may go green because of intrinsic motivation (to realise their values) or extrinsic pressure satisfy the requirements stakeholders). While impacts these two motivations on firms' behaviours have been discussed in literature, influences economic such as innovation remain unclear. This paper aims to investigate relationship between going due versus and impact innovation. We examine a dataset almost 21,000 small businesses 39 countries, primarily less developed, from 2018 2020. find that tend be more innovative than those do not. Also, are equally so for motivation. Circular start-ups (CSUs) are crucial for implementing a circular economy; yet, little research has been undertaken on the specific barriers they face. Through case study of CSUs in Dutch plastics industry, we identify several key encompassing technology dependence, poor credibility, constrained resources, collaboration challenges, lack knowledge and inadequate institutional support. Additionally, highlight four success factors (SFs) that enable to compete plastics: value proposition design, market sensitivity, networking prowess ambidexterity. Our shows can enact these SFs as strategies-in-use overcome barriers. Yet still, continue focusing recycling-centric business models, limiting their potential drive transition more radically along waste hierarchy.
