Abstract Amphiphilic cyclic dipeptides are efficient supramolecular hydrogelators. They can be combined with molecular photoswitches to produce light‐responsive soft materials, which applied in controlled drug delivery. Here it is reported that an arginine‐containing dipeptide decorated ortho‐fluorinated azobenzene forms hydrogels under physiological conditions reversibly liquefied upon exposure visible light frequencies (green and violet, respectively). The addition of sodium alginate results composite increased gelating capacity supported Coulombic interactions, also dissipate irradiation.

This study explores the potential of controlling organismal development with light by using reversible photomodulation activity in bioactive compounds. Specifically, our research focuses on plinabulin 1, an inhibitor tubulin dynamics that contains a photochromic motif called hemipiperazine. The two isomeric forms, Z-1 and E-1, can partially interconvert light, yet show remarkable thermal stability darkness. Z-isomer exhibits higher cytotoxicity due to stronger binding α-tubulin's colchicine site. less toxic E-1 form, considered "pro-drug", be isolated vitro stored. Upon activation blue or cyan it predominantly generates more form. Here we demonstrate 1 effectively photomodulate epiboly, critical microtubule-dependent cell movement during gastrulation zebrafish embryos. highlights for precise control cellular activities development.

Advance in the design of molecular photoswitches - adapters that convert light into changes at level opens up exciting possibilities preparing smart polymers, drugs photoactivated inside humans, or light-fueled nanomachines might future operate our bloodstream. Hemipiperazines are recently reported biocompatible based on cyclic dipeptides. Here we report a multistimuli-responsive hemipiperazine-based switch reacts light, solvents, acidity, metal ions. Its photoequilibration is controlled by intramolecular hydrogen bonding pattern. The compound can be used as mid-nanomolar photoswitchable fluorescent sensor for zinc and cadmium ions, applicable to monitor environmental pollution real time.
