Abstract Microplastic pollution has adversely affected the aquatic ecosystem, living creatures, and human health. Several studies in Malaysia have provided baseline information on existence of microplastics surface water, ingestion by marine life sediment. Also, humans are exposed to microplastic due consumption contaminated abiotic biotic products, such as processed seafood. Nonetheless, knowledge is still scarce among Malaysian potential remediation management microplastics, which poses a significant challenge preserve good environmental status. Green technologies also other alternative mitigate contamination for sustainable future. Hence, this review aims provide an overview microplastic's occurrence, fate, implications Malaysia's environment. Detection from water surface, aquatics, sediment samples highlighted. Available different treatment processes toward discussed. Additionally, challenges, current perspective plastic Malaysia, well green strategies reducing put forward. The goal work improve understanding seriousness environments, thus encouraging key concerns that need be investigated further.

The pervasive presence of microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) across various ecological settings, organisms, products has underscored the urgent need to collect data on their abundance identify polymer types in diverse substrates. Nanoplastics distinguish themselves from by smaller size. application magnetic composites wastewater treatment grown popularity due remarkable flocculation capabilities ferromagnetic properties. This comprehensive review centers synthesis methods, preparation technologies, practical applications polymeric for separating degrading micro/nanoplastics. It offers an extensive overview recent advancements separation degradation MPs/NPs within sources. begins consolidating efficient methods microplastics/nanoparticles (MPs/NPs). includes techniques such as adsorption, coagulation/flocculation, flotation, filtration, separation. subsequent section explores approaches MPs/NPs, encompassing advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), electrochemical degradation, photocatalysis, biological degradation. Additionally, in-depth insights into characterization composites. Lastly, it discusses current challenges prospects associated with treatment.

This study discusses the numbers, types, shapes, and sizes of microplastics (MPs) in marine surface waters, sediments, fish Peninsular Malaysia. Research publications were gathered organized utilizing Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink from 2015 to 2024. The review findings indicate a lack evidence about microplastic contamination Kelantan, Perlis, Johor, Melaka, highlighting necessity for more research these regions. Moreover, on life, including fish, requires standardization methodologies equipment. Currently, investigations flesh are still limited require studies concerning human health risk assessment. Ultimately, focused mitigation strategies comprehensive through development standardized equipment required assess environment protect ecosystems humans, particularly
