Promoting household garbage sorting holds substantial importance for improving the living environment, enhancing public health, and advancing sustainable development. Based on data from rural households in China, this study empirically examines impact of health explores its underlying mechanisms. The findings reveal that significantly improves households’ subjective with notable heterogeneity across regions characteristics. Specifically, benefits are more pronounced eastern region, as well among higher levels education income, while effects less significant lower-education lower-income groups. Further analysis indicates may also indirectly promote at cognitive level by fostering greater engagement wellness information. Moreover, is associated positive changes other health-related behaviors, such better regulation sugar, salt, oil intake, an increase use products.
