Open-pit mining often exposes weak rock layers, the strength of which significantly affects stability slopes. If these layers are also prone to disintegration and expansion, cyclic rainfall can exacerbate instability. Rainfall-induced changes in seepage field indirectly threaten Therefore, investigating characteristics mudstone limestone impact on slope instability under different wet–dry cycles is great significance for safe open-pit mines. This paper takes a certain mine southwest as starting point conducts experiments saturated density, water absorption rate, permeability coefficient, compressive strength, variable angle shear strength. Combined with scanning electron microscopy phase analysis X-ray diffraction analysis, macroscopic microscopic samples comprehensively analyzed. FLAC3D software used explore mechanism Our research found that preparation samples, particle size less than 1 mm drying temperature 50 °C optimal, specific values initial natural content. As number increases, density increases; rate first rises sharply then slowly; coefficient stabilizes, finally dropping sharply; decreases slowly, internal friction little; frequent lead mudification filtration. At level, pores become larger more regular, distribution concentrated; mineral content weaken numerical simulation, at bottom exceed those surface top, transient area expands, overall local coefficients gradually decrease. During third cycle, lower stability, landslide trend shifts. In conclusion, change content, affecting physical mechanical properties, leading deterioration area, decrease matrix suction, an increase gravity, eventually causing
