Global challenges such as energy scarcity and food security are intensified by a growing population substantial post-harvest losses, contributing to alarming hunger levels. Solar drying is recognized an effective, high-quality, sustainable method for preservation, significantly aiding global security. Dryers essential in agriculture the industry extending crop shelf life removing moisture through thermal energy, with solar being particularly suitable due its environmental benefits availability. This article reviews classification of dryers, including direct (DSD), indirect (ISD), hybrid (HSD) systems, examining key components like collectors, chambers, auxiliary systems factors affecting their performance. The review highlights that efficiency dryers depends on dryer type, irradiation, duration, operational conditions. Recent advancements enhance dryers' include incorporating heating sources (electric or biomass), solar-assisted heat pump surface modification techniques, storage utilizing sensible latent storage. Findings suggest HSD units can achieve up 54% efficiencies, while collectors reach 81%, yielding better product quality than traditional ones.

Abstract An investigation of the thermal and hydraulic performance a novel triple-helical tube heat exchanger, THTHE, is presented. The design modified DHTHE created by adding third to tube. passage expected enhance as result an increase in temperature gradient between hot cold fluids. effects coil radius, inner annulus spacing, water inlet temperature, direction flow arrangement, Dean number were explored. Five test samples with different radii 150 mm, 125 90 mm spacings 6.2 9 12 examined. designed, fabricated, tested demonstrate influence parameters on exchanger. experimental runs conducted side T h,i ranging from 50:80 °C. Moreover, at 400 ≤ De h 5500, corresponding Reynolds 2700 Re 31,000. Compared double-helical THTHE resulted higher Nusselt 146.1% 109.3% for both counterflow parallel-flow arrangements, respectively. Furthermore, lowering source 80 50 °C results 60.6% 60.6%, no pumping power. Purpose The investigation concentrated on studying a distinct category of tubular heat exchanger that uses swirling airflow over tube bundle maintained at constant flux. Swirl flow is achieved using novel perforated baffle plate with rectangular openings and multiple adjustable opposite-oriented saw-tooth deflectors. These deflectors were strategically placed the inlet to create downstream. Design/methodology/approach custom-built axial consists three plates arranged longitudinally supporting equipped deflector various geometry represented by space height ratio(e/h). Next, ambient air was then directed varying Reynolds number effect spacing (PR), Space ratio (e/h) inclination angle(a) performance experimentally analyzed. Findings transfer augmentation for given operating condition strongly dependent geometry, angle spacing. Originality/value An average improvement 1.42 times in thermal enhancement factor observed 30°, 0.4 pitch 1.2 when compared without under similar conditions.
