Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) has been tied to several forms of emotional and behavioral dysregulation in adolescence, with less attention paid regulation anger. Most assume that anger leads engagement NSSI, rather than the reverse. However, it is plausible NSSI compromises adolescents' abilities regulate their emotions, including anger, because may reduce development alternative regulatory strategies intensify negative emotions by reducing tolerance distress. Using three waves data from a sample adolescents 17 Swedish schools (n = 1,304 Mage 13.68, SDage .67; 89% origin; 58% girls), we examined directionality ties between dysregulation: dysregulated expressions suppression, low reflection. We also looked for differences magnitude paths gender differences. Random-intercept cross-lagged panel models showed predicted changes all but found no support opposite direction. Gender were not evident. Results challenge assumptions suggestions degrades when they self-injure.

Abstract Background Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is highly prevalent in adolescents. In survey and interview studies assessing NSSI, methods of assessment have been shown to influence prevalence estimates. However, knowledge which groups adolescents that are identified with different measurement lacking, the characteristics yet be investigated. Further, only a handful carried out using exploratory identify subgroups among NSSI. Methods The performance two measures (single-item vs. behavioral checklist) same cross-sectional community sample ( n = 266, age M 14.21, 58.3% female) was compared regarding estimates also characterization lifetime NSSI prevalence. A cluster analysis sample. Identified clusters were defined measures. Results total 118 (44.4%) participants acknowledged having engaged at least once. Of these, group 55 (20.7%) confirmed on single item 63 (23.7%) checklist, while denying item. Groups differed significantly, single-item being more severely affected higher mean scores difficulties emotion regulation, self-criticism, number methods, frequency rates suicidal ideation behavior lower score health-related quality life. All cases severity not by question. Cluster three clusters, fit well checklist Conclusions When investigating adolescents, findings influenced researchers’ choice present study provides some directions toward what kind expect given type measure used, both regards size its composition. Implications for future research as clinical preventive work discussed.

Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a major public health problem leading to psychological problems in adolescents and young adults, similar disorders such as depression anxiety. The aims of this study were investigate (1) the interaction between BMI socioenvironmental factors (including chronotype mental health) that contribute NSSI, (2) whether self-esteem plays mediating role association. From May June 2022, multistage cluster sampling method was used sample college students four grades, including freshmen seniors. baseline participants followed up 6 months later, excluding those who did not qualify, included 1772 students. As risk for both non-suicidal self-injury and depression increases at adolescence, it is critically important to clarify equivocal findings regarding the temporal ordering of these health concerns. Addressing limitations past research, which included use only two data waves analyses that do not account within-person variance, aim in this study was examine depressive symptoms during adolescence. Two independent samples were examined. One sample (first used by Marshall et al., 2013) consisted 799 Swedish adolescents (11 15 years, Mage = 13.18, SD 0.74; 51% girls). The second a later cohort from same area (N 2760; aged 12 18 13.75, 49% Analyses two-part cross-lagged panel models (CLPMs) random-intercept (RI-CLPMs) semi-continuous distribution NSSI determine if traditional lagged adequate estimating ties. results suggest CLPMs had inadequate fits data. RI-CLPMs showed significant within-person, transactional associations between NSSI. Specifically, mean age around 13 years associated with one year later, turn when average about old. Subsequently, lags suggested potential maintenance comorbid distress. These efforts reduce adolescence need begin early focus on adaptive responses distressing emotional experiences.

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a global public health problem. While some studies have noted the importance of behavioural development patterns in NSSI, most NSSI research based on cross-sectional survey data. Few explore time-series heterogeneity trajectories symptoms and family-related influencing factors NSSI.The purpose study was to identify adolescents' behaviour their factors. The group-based trajectory model (GBTM) used 208 adolescents China. Next, decision tree (DTM) analyse which family related influence type. The GBTM revealed two heterogeneous behaviour: high-risk low-risk groups. DTM's average accuracy 83.2%. A total seven independent variables were for DTM: gender, number NSSIs past month, economic, structure, conflict, parental psychological control, behavior control intimacy risks. Family conflict risk located at root node important factor.Heterogeneity within population should be considered management behaviours. Further, from perspective system theory cumulative risk, focusing adverse effect multiple addiction more meaningful rather than impact single factors. Studies that use time series data focus trend dynamic changes characteristics over time.

Abstract Background Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) has exhibited an increasing trend in recent years and is now globally recognized as a major public health problem among adolescents young adults. Negative life events (NLEs) are positively associated with NSSI. We sought to explore (1) whether sex plays role the risk of NLEs leading NSSI (2) played by mental (MH). Methods adopted multi-stage cluster sampling method select college students across four grades from May June 2022. Generalized linear models were used evaluate relationships between NLEs, sex, MH NSSI, presented incidence-rate ratios (RRs) 95% confidence intervals (CIs). examined complex relationship these variables using PROCESS for moderation analysis. Results Following exclusion data that did not meet study requirements, 3,578 (mean age: 20.53 [± 1.65] years) included. Poisson regression results indicate high-level (RR = 0.110, 95%CI: 0.047–0.173) increased Furthermore, interaction effects observed moderated Conclusion Identifying factors also important when exploring given potential significantly increase later psychopathological symptoms substance abuse problems. In addition, significance differences should be determined. This evaluated how impact on can reduced multiple perspectives.
