Diabetes is a prevalent metabolic condition with substantial health and economic impacts. Therefore, effective accessible indicators are essential for early detection prevention. This study investigates the link between waist-to-calf circumference ratio (WCR) diabetes risk in large cohort from Longevity Check-Up (Lookup) 8+ Study. The present investigation retrospective cross-sectional study. was defined either as self-reported diagnosis, or fasting plasma glucose equal to greater than 126 mg/dL, random 200 mg/dL. WCR calculated by dividing waist calf circumference. A total population of 8900 participants (mean age 57.1 ± 14.8 years, 55% women) included prevalence 9.4%. Mean displayed significant trend (p < 0.001), analysis covariance (ANCOVA) revealed differences among normal, pre-diabetes, groups. Unadjusted logistic regression showed positive association higher diabetes, which remained adjusted models. Receiver operating characteristic curve indicated that had area under compared alone, cut-off values 2.35 men 2.12 women providing high sensitivity (91% men, 92% specificity (74% 75% women). Our introduces novel, simple, cost-effective anthropometric measure identifying individuals at suitable clinical use, especially resource-limited settings.

An age-dependent normative values of calf circumference (CC) has been recently proposed as an accessible proxy for muscle mass. However, its usefulness to estimate sarcopenia not assessed. The objectives the present study were determine if substitution classical way assess mass by these have enough diagnostic accuracy and prognostic value among older adults living in community.

Abstract Background Wide consensus exists on the notion that low muscle mass is a predictor of negative health‐related events, such as disability, morbidity, and mortality. Indeed, European Working Group Sarcopenia in Older People 2 had identified key component to confirm diagnosis sarcopenia. However, lack normative values for across ages hampers practical assessment this important parameter. The aim present study was produce cross‐sectional centile calf circumference (a surrogate estimation mass) wide spectrum using large unselected sample community‐dwellers enrolled Longevity Check‐up 7+ (Lookup 7+) project. Methods This data Lookup project, an ongoing started June 2015 conducted unconventional settings (i.e., exhibitions, malls, health promotion campaigns). Candidate participants were considered eligible enrolment if they at least 45 years age provided written informed consent. Calf measured inextensible but flexible plastic tape sitting position with knee ankle right angle feet resting floor. Normative from 80 + generated. Results A total 11 814 1 30 September 2022. mean included analyses 61.8 (standard deviation; 10.2 years; range: 45–98 years), 6686 (57%) women. obtained men women, stratified by groups. Accordingly, tape, colour bands demarcate centiles range into which patient falls, created validated. Conclusions Our established age‐ gender‐specific reference circumference. can be used easily interpret every‐day practice early detection individuals or risk sarcopenia malnutrition.

Abstract Purpose We compared the performance of SARC-F, SARC-CalF, calf circumference (CC), and body mass index (BMI)-adjusted CC for sarcopenia case-finding in community-dwelling older adults. Methods Data Finnish participants (women/men n = 192/36, mean age (SD) 76.9 (4.8) years) recruited SPRINTT trial (NCT02582138) were used. Sarcopenia was determined as a combination low muscle function (chair-stand-test) appendicular lean (ALM) detected by whole-body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Associations tools with analysed using ROC curves logistic regression. Results The rates probable confirmed 95% 18% women 94% 36% men, respectively. Performance (women AUC 0.85 [95% CI 0.78–0.92]/ men 0.71–1.0]) superior to that other tools; (AUC women/men SARC-F 0.57/0.50, SARC-CalF 0.76/0.79, BMI-adjusted 0.68/0.66). best found cut-off point ≤ 34 cm sensitivity/specificity 82.4/75.3% 36 76.9/87.0%. For each decrease CC, adjusted BMI, there 30% increase odds (OR 1.30, 1.09─1.56). Although similar pattern results did not reach statistical significance 1.34, 0.84- 2.14). Conclusions case-finding. men.
