Baryscapus dioryctriae is a pupal endoparasitoid of many Pyralidae pests and has been used as biocontrol agent against insect that heavily damage the cone seed Korean pine. The olfactory system wasps plays an essential role in sensing chemical signals during their foraging, mating, host location, etc., chemosensory genes are involved detecting transducing these signals. Many have identified from antennae Hymenoptera; however, there few reports on Eulophidae wasps. In this study, transcriptome databases based ten different tissues B. were first constructed, 274 putative genes, consisting 27 OBPs, 9 CSPs, 3 NPC2s, 155 ORs, 49 GRs, 23 IRs 8 SNMPs transcriptomes manual annotation. Phylogenetic trees constructed to investigate orthologs between other species. Additionally, twenty-eight showed female antennae- ovipositor-biased expression, which was validated by RT-qPCR. Reverse chemical ecology has been widely applied for the functional characterization of olfactory proteins in various arthropods, but few related studies have focused on parasitic wasps. Here, odorant carrier Niemann–Pick C2 protein Baryscapus dioryctriae (BdioNPC2b) was studied vitro and vivo. Ligand binding analysis revealed that BdioNPC2b most strongly bound to 2-butyl-2-octenal which compound could elicit an EAG response attracted B. adults. Moreover, this attractant significantly improved reproductive efficiency compared control. Then, relationship between validated by RNAi, site-directed mutagenesis involvement three key residues through hydrogen bonding. Our findings provide not only a deeper understanding function NPC2 wasps also useful information improving performance parasitoid as biological control agent.

The morphology, number, and distribution of antennal sensilla differ between males females, reflecting adaptations to sex-specific ecological roles life histories. In this study, scanning electron microscopy was employed examine the structure types adult females Sclerodermus guani Xiao et Wu 1983 (Hymenoptera: Bethylidae), with a focus on identifying morphological differences sexes. results revealed that antennae both sexes are geniculate; however, female shorter broader than those males. Each antenna comprises 13 segments, including scape (1 segment), pedicel flagellum (11 segments). Eight distinct were identified notable in subtypes. Trichoid subtype III found exclusively males, whereas long basiconic II unique females. More 70% olfactory nature, highlighting their predominant role chemical detection. observed sexual dimorphism morphology suggests functional specialization, potentially linked host localization mate location

Abstract The widespread use of insecticides in forest ecosystems has raised significant concerns about their nontarget effects on biological control agents (BCAs), such as predators and parasitoid wasps, which play a pivotal role natural pest suppression. This review evaluates the lethal sublethal impacts various insecticide classes BCAs. Systemic insecticides, while effective controlling pests, have been shown to impair reproduction, foraging behavior, host-seeking abilities BCAs, leading disruptions regulation biodiversity loss. In Pinus koraiensis (Siebold & Zucc) forests, wasps Baryscapus dioryctriae (Yang Song) are critical for managing pests Dioryctria pryeri. However, exposure threatens efficacy, exacerbating outbreaks ecosystem instability. deployment B. BCA provides sustainable alternative chemical control, with demonstrated success reducing populations minimizing environmental impacts. Integrated management (IPM) frameworks that combine targeted offer promising solutions mitigate effects. Future research should focus optimizing mass-rearing release strategies exploring semiochemical-based disruption assessing long-term ecological consequences low-dose exposure. By advancing IPM approaches, managers can achieve preserving integrity ecosystems.

Abstract Grylloprimevala jilina Zhou & Ren is the third extant species of Grylloblattodea to be found in China. To understand various physiological functions sensilla on main sensory organs G. during its vital activities, this study used scanning electron microscopy examine morphology appendages and analyze their abundance distribution antennae. The filiform antennae comprise scape, pedicel flagellum. maxillary palps three segments, cerci contain four total. Altogether, 11 morphologically distinct types were identified organs: apertures; Böhm bristles (BB); auricillica (SA), basiconica (SB), campaniformia (SCa), capitulum (SCap), chaetica (SCh), coeloconica (SCo), (SF) trichodea (ST); spines. Studies have revealed that, except some cases, abundances gradually show a trend diversification enrichment as segments are extended forward. Functional predictions for suggest that they include chemoreceptors, mechanoreceptors temperature or humidity receptors. As wall‐pore sensilla, SA, SB, SCo ST could involved perception chemical signals emitted from living environment. In addition, mechanical receptors, BB, SCa, SCh SF may feedback stimuli. Our findings provide an essential insight into rare national first‐class protected insect, necessary theoretical basis studying phylogeny Grylloblattodea.
