Concerns regarding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) their precursors have driven increased research into sources, impacts, mitigation strategies, aiming to reduce prevalence in the environment. While much of this has centered on known large sources PFAS (e.g., military bases, airports, fire training sites, some manufacturing facilities), there been interest evaluating inadvertent introduction agroecosystems from beneficial reuse treated domestic wastewater for irrigation land application biosolids composts derived food waste. Additional agricultural fields include use PFAS-containing pesticides. These activities raise questions potential impacts introduced systems rural water supplies, soil health, safety. This special section contains papers that fall three categories: (i) source assessment residuals destined agroecosystems, (ii) improved understanding fate transport following materials, (iii) small-scale techniques demonstrate promise mitigating mobilization agroecosystems. The work contained can be used help guide future decisions related guidelines, policies, regulations intended protect human ecological health.
