ABSTRACT The ash weevil, Myllocerus subfasciatus , is a significant insect pest that infests brinjal. Both the adults and grubs feed on leaves roots, respectively, leading to considerable yield loss. subterranean habits of larvae limit effectiveness insecticide applications, necessitating implementation integrated management programs utilize entomopathogenic fungi. This investigation aimed identify potential Metarhizium species against weevil through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) histopathology. weevils were mass‐cultured brinjal plants under insect‐proof conditions. Eleven sourced from departmental repository subjected pathogenicity tests second‐instar larvae, revealing concentration 1 × 10 6 conidia/mL was optimal for SEM histological studies. Among 11 strains examined, TNAU ENTMA TDM 8 strain produced spores measuring 5.8 µm in length 2.4 width both potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium larvae. analysis indicated mycelial adherence penetration most pronounced 5 days post inoculation (DPI). Histopathological investigations demonstrated caused degradation fat bodies hemocytes at 3 DPI, complete body distortion 7 while untreated control exhibited no such effects. M. robertsii ENTMR GYU displayed slower infectivity compared anisopliae strains. determined be effective can utilized managing populations.

The current study aimed to isolate Beauveria brongniartii conidia from forest soils, identify the fungus, and evaluate its effectiveness on eggs, larvae, pupae, adults of Spodoptera litura. Insect mortality rates were recorded every 3, 6, 9, 12 days. identification entomopathogenic fungi was carried out using molecular techniques, including PCR, DNA sequencing, markers, detect species-specific 18 S rDNA genetic sequences, all performed under aseptic conditions. results indicated that higher concentrations (2.7 × 109 conidia/mL) exhibited greater virulence, with eggs showing a rate 98.66%, followed by larvae 96%, 90.66%, pupae 77.33% after Probit analysis revealed minimal LC50 LC90 values: (5.5 102; 1.0 106 spores/mL), (8.2 1.2 107 (9.6 104; 7.3 1010 (1.0 103; 2.0 108 spores/mL). total hemocyte counts detailed observational B. induces cellular breakdown cell lysis in S. litura producing enzymes degrade cuticle membranes. Earthworm bioindicator studies showed effects compared controls, while chemical treatments resulted 96% at 100 ppm. Histopathological examinations no significant differences gut tissue between earthworms treated fungal those control group, unlike substantial damage caused treatments. Biochemical alterations enzyme activity, reduced levels phosphatase catalase, as well increased lipid peroxides superoxide dismutase. This highlights controlling litura, demonstrating potential viable biocontrol agent promoting eco-friendly alternatives pesticides, risk non-target species or environment.

The fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) invasion poses a significant threat to maize production in Africa. Some entomopathogenic fungal strains, particularly those from the genera Beauveria and Metarhizium, have been considered as potential biological control agents for this pest. When these fungi are present fields, they can not only infect individual pests but also spread among pest populations, leading long-term suppression. In study, 17 isolates, including 12 spp. 5 Metarhizium spp., were evaluated under laboratory conditions. Pathogenicity assessments revealed variation mortality rates isolates. Specifically, isolates APPRC-44BC APPRC-27 demonstrated high larval of 88.7% 83.5%, respectively. dose–response study showed that had lowest LC50 (2.8 × 105 conidia/mL) LC90 (2.2 107 values. Subsequently, three most pathogenic two (APPRC-44BC APPRC-27) one sp. (APPRC-34GM), field conditions maize. Treatments with APPRC-44BC, significantly reduced leaf damage increased yield compared negative control. These findings underscore native sustainable alternatives managing S. frugiperda. addresses critical knowledge gap Africa offers an environmentally friendly alternative chemical pesticides effective management. Further evaluation promising diverse agroecological settings is needed confirm their effectiveness across different regions.

Aedes albopictus, known as the Asian tiger mosquito, is a significant vector for dengue fever, chikungunya, zika virus, yellow fever. Current control methods rely on chemical insecticides, which face challenges such resistance, environmental harm, and impact non-target species Eudrilus eugeniae Artemia salina. This study evaluates toxic effects of biogenic copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) synthesized using Metarhizium robertsii intracellular extract obtained from our previous research. The CuNPs were tested against A. albopictus at 24 48 hours post-treatment. Results demonstrated that entomopathogenic fungi-derived exhibited potent mosquitocidal activity, resulting in 97.33% mortality larvae, 93.33% pupae, 74.66% adults derived M. showed lower LC50 values 74.873 mg/L 76.101 136.645 Additionally, 12 post-treatment, catalase (an antioxidant enzyme) activity decreased 1.5-fold dose-dependent manner, while glutathione S-transferase (a detoxification increased 7.8-fold. toxicity to species, with 24% salina 24.44% E. 634.747 602.494 These findings indicate are promising, target-specific candidate controlling various life stages (larvae, adults).
