ABSTRACT The COVID‐19 pandemic forced the postponement of some international events, such as Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which negatively impacted residents and local tourism industry. Therefore, it is necessary to understand residents' support for hosting major sporting events. We surveyed 769 using a structural equation model applied social exchange theory (SET) analyse 31st Summer Universiade examine their results revealed significant relationship between risk perception perceived costs benefits, affected These findings confirmed benefits key factors determining for/opposition proposed concept, integrated into event research model, expanded explanatory power SET in unconventional contexts, providing stakeholders with references planning events under special circumstances.

Sports events hold significant importance for host territories, influencing their economic, social, and environmental dynamics. These generate diverse impacts that shape residents’ perceptions subsequent support, which are crucial ensuring long-term success. However, the study of motorsports, particularly rally at national championship level, remains underexplored, despite capacity to attract tourism foster regional development. This adopts a quantitative approach, employing survey 753 responses collected during urban track 2024 Sierra Morena Rally in Córdoba, Spain. Using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) non-hierarchical Cluster Analysis, residents were segmented based on impacts—touristic, environmental, urban—and support event. The analysis identified three resident clusters: Reluctant Beneficiaries, Pragmatic Resigned, Convinced Optimists. groups exhibited varying levels perceived positive negative impacts, with differences rally. findings contribute theoretical understanding non-mega motorsports events, highlighting tailored communication strategies anticipation generated. addresses existing knowledge gaps by segmenting regarding perception national-level event first time academic literature.

Motorsports tourism has a significant impact on host communities, especially when they are small communities. This research aims to segment the resident population of very rural municipality, Obejo, before celebration Sierra Morena Rally in province Cordoba, Spain. The study is based principles social exchange theory (SET) and triple bottom line (TBL).
