Abstract Background During the bloom season, colonial cyanobacterium Microcystis forms complex aggregates which include a diverse microbiome within an exopolymer matrix. Early research postulated simple mutualism existing with bacteria benefitting from rich source of fixed carbon and receiving recycled nutrients. Researchers have since hypothesized that represent community synergistic interacting species, interactome, each unique metabolic capabilities are critical to growth, maintenance, demise blooms. Research has also shown aggregate-associated taxonomically different free-living in surrounding water. Moreover, identified little overlap functional potential between members its microbiome, further supporting interactome concept. Extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) are crucial for cyanobacterial proliferation; however, certain queries, including how EPS affects cellular nutrient processes and what the implications management in lakes, not well documented. Here, dynamics of EPS-associated phosphorus (EPS-P) were examined both a shallow eutrophic lake (Lake Taihu, China) laboratory experiments with respect to nitrogen (N) (P) availability. Results indicated that 40–65% total aggregate/particulate P presented as EPS-P (mainly labile Fe/Al-P). Phosphorus-starved cyanobacteria rapidly replenished their pools after was resupplied, concentration this pool stable long afterward, although environmental decreased dramatically. A low-N treatment enhanced production alongside two-fold accumulation (particularly P) higher than control. Such patterns occurred where contents high under N limitation. enrichment increased content cyanobacteria; subsequently, it could hold longer make bloom mitigation harder. The findings outline new insight into functions process aggregates encourage consideration reductions management.

The selection of suitable raw materials as adsorbents is a key factor in effectively removing phosphorus from water. As an industrial by-product, soda residue exhibits high porosity and surface area, which can adsorb pollutants. Magnetic lanthanum-iron (La-Fe-CSR) was synthesized using the co-precipitation method, its characterization mechanism for phosphate were thoroughly investigated. La-Fe-CSR exhibited good adsorption performance under acidic conditions (3 < pH 7). A concentration HCO3− (100 mg/L) reduced by 8.3% ± 2.5%, whereas presence other coexisting ions had smaller impact. controlled chemisorption reached saturation after approximately 120 min. significantly higher than that (43.65 3.39 mg/g), reaching 74.87 2.46 mg/g. Ligand exchange inner-sphere complexation constituted primary mechanisms through L-Fe-CSR removed phosphate. After 5 consecutive cycles, maintained removal efficiency 74.5 1.6%. It demonstrated total real domestic sewage, with rate 94.9 0.5%. These research findings held significant promise highly effective adsorbent practical applications.
