Pyropia yezoensis is the most widely cultivated and economically important alga. Affected by climate change, cultivation of P. has gradually migrated to northern coast China, increasing from 6.8% in 2019 19.5% 2023. To date, genetic impact migration on resources not been assessed analyzed extensively. Here, DNA barcoding (rbcL cox1) presence/absence intronic-ORFs mitochondrial regions (rnl were applied investigate diversity 44 specimens 17 aquaculture farms with comparisons Korean Japanese resources. The lower intraspecific variation was 0.31% for cox1 gene 0.14% rbcL gene, three haplotypes, indicating that intensive selection breeding during had narrowed germplasm variation. intron structure showed phenotypes, shared 35.3% genotypes southern specimens, expanding its ranges through north migration. Even diversity, area already developed 17.6% site-specific specimens. Northwest Pacific also discussed. Our work provides a preliminary framework under change.

Abstract Species of the red algal genus Meristotheca are important natural resources that can be used directly as food for human consumption well raw materials extraction carrageenan. Despite being harvested in Japan and Korea, a comprehensive taxonomic study specimens from these two countries to elucidate their phylogenetic position is lacking. In this study, we aimed clarify identities currently regarded M. papulosa Korea by analyzing morphological molecular data. As result, recognized new species, pilulaora sp. nov. resurrected japonica Japan. The entities have long been identified exhibit similar external morphologies. They appeared independently concatenated tree COI-5P rbc L could also distinguished morphologically cystocarps (blade margins ; marginal proliferations ), spinose (absent present number cortical cell layers (two 4–8 ). DNA analysis local populations showed 11 haplotypes on Jeju Island with no apparent geographical structure. High genetic diversity occurrence unique southern may provide basis population high thermal tolerance. These findings strengthened our understanding species provided insights into conservation, management, haplotype selection future cultivation economically species.
