The introduction of NaCl in freshwater caused by winter runoffs is a problem whose consequences are still little understood. We sought to analyze the effect addition on microbial communities hypolimnion and bottom sediments Canadian lake. Using microcosms comprising salinity gradient varying between 0.01 3.22 ppt (10–3220 mg/L−1) NaCl, we investigated prokaryotic absolute abundance diversity, following three- six-week exposure, detected presence threshold for communities’ differentiation. observed significant decline bacterial diversity after six weeks hypolimnetic samples. In sediments, no clear was or despite variations throughout gradient. implication nutrient fluctuations as well co-occurrence species inter-domain interactions likely would strongly contribute development salt-exposed communities. water archaeal eukaryotic differed significantly from 0.93 (930 mg/L−1), while only conclusive at 1.9 (1900 bacteria, meaning that regulations place possibly suitable protection sediment lake layers.
