Realized niches are crucial in defining their optimal conditions and serve as valuable tools for predicting the phytoplankton dynamics relation to eutrophication, climate change, harmful blooms. However, previous studies have largely focused on marine ecosystems, leaving freshwater systems less studied. In this study, we elucidate patterns of community succession based niche characteristics Shanmei (SM) Reservoir, a drinking water source Quanzhou, Fujian Province. Additionally, variations were mainly explained by realized niche. SM total chlorophyll concentrations ranged from 252 24,008 ng/L. The was dominated Chlorophyta Cyanophyta, which consisted mostly Pseudanabaena Microcystis, especially summer. This dominance attributed wide breadth high mean temperature, nitrogen, dissolved reactive phosphorus. On other hand, Cryptophyta Bacillariophyta reached higher autumn winter, linked low temperature niches. Under multiple pressures change anthropogenic activities, Cyanophyta likely thrive environments characterized rising temperatures elevated nutrient concentrations. is particularly true buoyant cyanobacteria such Pseudanabaena, well-suited stratified layers induced temperatures. Therefore, incorporating bloom-forming species would contribute prevention management blooms, ultimately improving safety water.
