Abstract Lasers with high spectral coherence are in demand for applications requiring precision. Single frequency (SF) and ultrafast lasers represent two types of highly coherent light sources, each distinct time‐frequency characteristics. The advent novel technologies based on electro‐optics nonlinear optics has bridged the gap between these lasers, enabling conversion them. This review examines several that enable SF lasers. generation pulses by modulation an laser, covering both electro‐optic (EOM) optic‐optic (OOM) is discussed. With respect to Kerr soliton laser‐induced parametric conversion, schemes without resonator structure compared extraction a single comb line from laser using stimulated Brillouin scattering also presented. new all‐polarization‐maintaining fiber structures made amplification practical robust solution extraction. These customizable time characteristics poised become essential building blocks future photonic technologies.
