Abstract Optical anisotropy, as the core physical property for polarization manipulation, has always posed a significant challenge in design of functional optical materials regarding its regulation mechanism and performance optimization. In mid-far infrared (IR) region, that possess both large birefringence wide transparent range are extremely scarce. this study, we synthesized Hg9Ga4Se4Cl16 (HGSC), tridymite-like topological structure incorporating well-aligned linear [Hg3Se2] units. HGSC exhibits an exceptional 0.808 at 546 nm, which is 67 times higher than commercial MgF2, while also possessing broadest transparency window among Hg-based chalcogenide single crystals (0.4 to 25 µm). Theoretical calculations reveal originates from clusters, exhibit highest anisotropy (𝛿 = 430) all known birefringence-active This study presents new bifunctional unit combine IR birefringence. Furthermore, first selenide feature [Hg3]2+ atomic multinuclear compounds offer potential applications thermoelectric, magnetism, low-temperature superconductivity.

Abstract Investigations and structural designs of new sulfates are essential challenging in the nonlinear optical (NLO) field. Herein, a mixed metal sulfate halide, AgHgI(SO 4 ) ( AHIS is synthesized. features centrosymmetric (CS) Belousovite‐type structure displays moderate birefringence (0.19 at 546 nm). To break this structure, study proposes strategy simultaneously introducing discrepant Lewis bases I − Cl , which results CS to non‐centrosymmetric (NCS) transformation novel NCS compound, AgHg 3 3.2 1.8 (SO AHIClS ). It exhibits very strong second‐harmonic generation response (11.8 × KH 2 PO under 1064 nm laser radiation, large (0.39 nm), high laser‐induced damage threshold 52.9 MW cm −2 hence it promising NLO crystal. Its SHG effect far exceeds those most sulfates. The relationship between different overall structures has been analyzed, can offer valuable insights into research materials.

Inorganic selenites are promising candidates for nonlinear optical and birefringent crystals. However, that can effectively transmit in the UV region still relatively scarce. In this study, we successfully synthesized first Zn-based selenite with properties using a hydrothermal method by introducing Zn2+ La3+ ions, which cause blue shift compound's bandgap, into system. The compound crystallizes chiral space group P3112 presents unique three-dimensional structure composed of two-dimensional zinc layers bridged LaO10 polyhedra. Notably, possesses wide bandgap (5.0 eV), high birefringence (0.092 at 546 nm), excellent thermal stability (∼540 °C), broad transparency window (0.21-6 μm), apparent SHG efficiency (0.2 × KDP). Our work not only demonstrates great potential as crystals but also expands research scope materials.
