Abstract The production of materials based on fossil resources is yielding more sustainable and ecologically beneficial methods. Vegetable oils (VO) are one example base whose derivatives rival the properties their petro‐based counterparts. Gaps exist however way to fill them by employing sol–gel processes synthesize organic–inorganic hybrid materials, often derived from silane/siloxane compounds. Creating Si─O─Si inorganic networks in organic VO matrix permits attainment necessary strength, among other property enhancements. Consequently, many efforts have been directed optimally achieve with VOs. However, compatibilization challenging, desirable conditions for matching filler remain a key stumbling block toward wider application. Therefore, this review aims detail recent progress these new hybrids, focusing main strategies polymerize functionalize raw VO, followed routes highlighting addition fillers obtain composites.
