Assessing the knowledge of and attitudes towards species is critical for shaping next generation conservationists environmentally conscious citizens to foster a sense responsibility engagement with natural world. However, no studies have been undertaken from Bhutan date concerning attitude waterbirds. We conducted an online survey 741 students encompassing 185 middle 556 higher secondary schools. The results indicated that majority poor level but strong positive Conditional inference tree (CIT) analysis revealed most statistically significant factor associated was region followed by age, gender grade, respectively. Similarly, CIT showed female exhibited stronger than males others. Further, there weak correlation between attitude. current study suggests pressing need address substantial gap waterbirds among Bhutanese students. Therefore, we recommend emphasis should also be placed on teaching outdoor waterbird biology, potentially infusing it into school curricula, which would deeper understanding Bhutan's their habitats.

The knowledge and attitudes of local communities are essential for understanding the distribution, ecology, pertinent threats to bird species, particularly those existing beyond protected areas. Despite reliance large waterbirds like storks on human-dominated agricultural landscapes, research in this domain is limited across its range. To address gap, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 546 people seven districts lowlands Nepal from 2021 2022 insights into people's knowledge, attitudes, conservation challenges faced by Lesser Adjutant (Leptoptilos javanicus). Our findings demonstrated that possessed substantial about species identification ecology. A majority (89%), agreed statement contributes ecosystem services whereas they disagreed notions it a pest, unattractive or possess medicinal values, 84%, 82%, 67% respectively holding these views. In addition, 65% reported significant decline population, noting decrease distribution range 49% observing reduction nesting colonies over past decade, primarily due food scarcity, habitat loss, felling trees, wetland degradation, pesticide use, hunting, among other factors. striking gap was evident, approximately two-thirds unaware status, 80% highlighting absence awareness initiatives. Nonetheless, (95%) expressed strong support conservation, emphasizing need intensified programs, management, protection measures, ensure well-being iconic confines study provides baseline data researchers managers design effective plans policies Adjutant.
