Abstract Purpose The aim of this randomised controlled trial (RCT) was to explore whether a community nursing intervention for outpatients receiving systemic therapy reduced unplanned hospital presentations and improved physical psychosocial health outcomes over the first three cycles treatment compared control group standard care. Methods number reasons were obtained 170 176 adult patients with solid tumours starting outpatient chemotherapy. Poisson regression used compare between groups. Patients self-completed Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale, Cancer Behavior Inventory European Organization Research Treatment Quality Life Questionnaire core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) at start four cycles. Linear techniques quality life outcomes. Results reduction in relative 12% (95% CI, − 25%, 37%; P = 0.48). At cycle 4, there no difference anxiety (difference 0.47 0.28, 1.22; 0.22)), depression 0.57 0.18, 1.31; 0.13)) or EORTC QLQ-C30 summary score 0.16 2.67, 3.00; 0.91)). Scores self-efficacy as measured by higher 4.3 0.7, 7.9; 0.02)). Conclusion This RCT did not demonstrate benefit reducing hospital. identified cancer-based intervention. Self-efficacy expectations are associated with improvements in problematic outcomes widely considered clinically significant (ie, emotional distress, fatigue, and pain), related to positive health behaviors, as a type of personal agency, inherently valuable. expectancies, estimates confidence execute important that changes self-efficacy positively future behaviors promote well-being. The current meta-analysis investigated the impact psychological interventions on for variety among cancer patients.Ovid Medline, PsycINFO, CINAHL, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web Science were searched specific search terms identifying randomized controlled trials (RCTs) focused psychologically based interventions. Included studies had (a) an adult sample, (b) expectation measure (c) RCT design. Standard screening reliability procedures used selecting coding studies. Coding included theoretically informed moderator variables.Across 79 RCTs, 223 effect sizes, 8678 participants, weighted average was estimated g = 0.274 (P < .001). Consistent theory, in-person intervention delivery (g 0.329) significantly greater than all other formats 0.154, P .023; eg, audiovisual, print, telephone, Web/internet).The results establish comparable size commonly reported (distress, pain). Additionally, result achieved largest is supported by social learning theory could inform research development evaluation

Abstract Background Despite advances in cancer research and treatment, the burden of is not evenly distributed. People experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage have higher rates cancer, later stage at diagnoses, are dying cancers that preventable screen-detectable.
