A high-efficiency after-treatment technology has been required to meet the increasingly stringent regulations on emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons (HCs), and carbon monoxide (CO) exhausts from diesel engine vehicles throughout world. The oxidation catalyst (DOC) is an indispensable part a diesel-fueled exhaust system, which mainly functions in unburned HCs CO CO2 H2O (in case HCs) proportion NO NO2. However, DOC will unavoidably be poisoned by trace gaseous SO2 or accumulated sulfur under real operational conditions hence impair overall purification efficiency aftertreatment system. There have significant research efforts both academia industry involving sulfur-relevant chemistry development robust sulfur-resistant catalysts. This Review focuses recent advances study effects catalytic NO, HCs, over DOCs, with particular attention fundamentals beneath apparent observations influence PGM-based non-noble metal-based catalysts different reactions. Regeneration methods design rationale for are also covered. Several challenges future regarding microscopic insights into SO2-influencing mechanism next-generation highlighted toward real-world practice.
