Abstract Herein, a new concept is proposed for the humidity‐induced disappearance of photonic stop band (PSB) in multilayer films 1D crystals (PCs). These are fabricated via alternating spin‐coating photo‐cross‐linkable high and low‐refractive‐index polymers onto black polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate, followed by surface immobilization using UV light irradiation. The sensitivity to humidity adjusted varying degree quaternization (DQ) P(4VP‐co‐BPA) layers. resulting initially display vivid colors; however, as gradually increases, PSB undergoes red shift accompanied decrease reflectivity, thus leading color. reduction reflectivity can be attributed infiltration water molecules ( n = 1.33) into quaternized high‐refractive‐index layers, refractive index an increase layer thickness. This leads diminished contrast between indices high‐ ultimately causing simultaneous reflection Additionally, two patterned with responsiveness application anti‐counterfeiting labels. findings advance crystal research offer innovative solutions security authentication.

Abstract One‐dimensional photonic crystals (1D PCs) emerged as superb sensing platforms due to their high sensitivity environmental changes. However, effectively translating the microscopic interactions between covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and analytes into macroscopic optical responses via 1D PCs for intuitive detection presents a significant challenge. Here, we propose stepwise‐induced synthesis strategy that first time achieves size‐controlled of uniform nanoscale COFs (60–80 nm), leading high‐quality COF layer. This advancement enables COF‐based exhibit diverse color variations controllable saturation. Notably, excellent compatibility layer with inorganic oxides, polymers, metal‐organic (MOFs) results in these exhibiting bright colors. Crucially, introducing mesoporous materials achieve deep integration adsorption recognition functions volatile compounds (VOCs). The fabricated COF/MOF PC allows differentiation 12 VOCs visually detects at different concentrations (0–80 g m − 3 ) through changes, response under 1 s. In particular, can be transferred flexible substrates while retaining VOC visual sensing. These attributes highlight potential real‐time monitoring industrial environments.

Traditional thermochromic materials prioritize high sensitivity and rapid discoloration. Reversible thermochromism with delayed discoloration is highly desirable for applications like thermal history indicators energy-saving windows, yet it has rarely been achieved. Here, we construct such composites simply by assembling hydrophobic silica nanoparticles in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix. The films transition from colorless translucent to blue within minutes when heated above 60 °C retain their color over eight hours at 20 °C. Remarkably, the time can be further extended lowering environmental relative humidity. Integrating measurements of water absorption, refractive indices, optical model calculation, demonstrate that coloration rises combined effects Rayleigh scattering multiple prolonged surprisingly caused gradual absorption moisture. This unique material opens new avenues advancing technology applications.
