Abstract The transition of a material from academia to industry is significant interest. Although extensive efforts have been devoted toward design and development various crystalline solid‐state proton conductors (SSPCs) such as MOFs/CPs, COFs, HOFs, POMs with impressive conductivity up 10 −2 – −1 S cm , less attention has paid verify their potentiality via membrane electrode assembly (MEA) construction for the usage in H 2 /O fuel cells, which ultimate goal R&D. Herein, we aim highlight MEA fabricated SSPCs validate reliability practicality cells. An in‐depth discussion comparison several industrially relevant parameters open circuit voltages, power density, current durability assessments along operating conditions key this contribution. Most importantly, ‘Critical Analysis’ section provides critical thoughts on so far developments performance four sorts materials pros cons, while identification existing issues future recommendations made ‘Future Prospects’ section, will be beneficial chemists getting sufficient new chemical insights interest engineers cell partners.
