Plastic waste has caused severe global environmental pollution and health issues due to the high production rate lack of proper disposal technology. Traditional methods deal with plastic waste, such as incineration landfilling, are deemed unsustainable energy-intensive. A promising alternative is photocatalytic conversion using sunlight a sustainable carbon-neutral energy source break down under ambient pressure low temperatures. This review aims provide comprehensive summary recent advancements in photoconversion, an emphasis on catalysts reaction pathways. The mechanisms routes first reviewed, followed by detailed discussion strategies design for improved performance photoconversion. Then, examples photothermal degradation processes presented. Finally, current strategies, challenges, possible future directions photoconversion summarized discussed.
