The spatiotemporal behavior of game species may play a critical role in their survival throughout the hunting season. Where humans are most dominant predators, avoidance landscape features that allow hunter access to grounds can be key increasing survival. However, Sweden there is limited knowledge about how hunters impact populations through selection behavioral traits. In this system, pressure generally high and approximately 30% moose Alces alces population harvested per year. To test for differences habitat relation under varying levels long‐lived species, we analyzed 10 years individual‐based movement data adult male female southern Sweden. We used integrated Step Selection Functions (iSSF) analyze four consecutive time periods (before rutting season, during rut, first three weeks season following weeks). matched coefficients individual animals with fate tested between ‘harvested' ‘non‐harvested'male each period. Our findings indicate select sex‐specific traits by moose. found selected higher NDVI suggesting personality‐driven mortality contrast, moose, risk increased shorter distance roads hunters. current harvest practices result study highlights complex dynamics pressure, revealing and, return, might influence management.
