The assessment of negative symptoms in schizophrenia has advanced since the 2006 NIMH-MATRICS Consensus Statement, leading to development second-generation rating scales like Brief Negative Symptom Scale and Clinical Assessment Interview for Symptoms. These address limitations first-generation tools, such as inclusion aspects that are not lack subject's internal experience. However, psychometric validation these is still progress, they yet recommended by regulatory agencies, thus limiting their use clinical trials settings. Complementing traditional methods, remote digital phenotyping offers a novel approach leveraging smartphones wearable technology capture real-time, high-resolution data. Despite potential overcome barriers, challenges remain aligning measures with ratings ensuring data security. Equally important patient acceptance, success relies on willingness patients technologies. This review provides critical overview both assessing symptoms, highlighting future research needs.

Cognitive impairments are frequently observed in subjects with severe mental illnesses (SMI), leading to a remarkable impact their real-world functioning. Well-validated and gold standard instruments available for the assessment of cognitive deficits, but different limitations should be considered, such as need specific training, lengthy administration times, practice effects, or reliance on subjective reports. Recent advances digital technologies, ecological momentary assessments (EMA), virtual reality (VR), passive phenotyping (DP), offer promising complementary approaches capturing In current mini-review, we examine research gaps that limit application these focus feasibility, reliability validity. EMA may capture functioning by increasing number evaluations throughout day, its use might hindered high participant burden missing data. Furthermore, achieve an accurate interpretation EMA, studies account sampling moment selection biases presence several confounding factors. DP faces significant ethical logistical challenges, including privacy informed consent concerns, well challenges data interpretation. VR could serve platform both more ecologically valid rehabilitation interventions, barriers include technological psychometric limitations, underdeveloped theoretical frameworks, considerations. Addressing issues is crucial ensuring novel technologies can effectively valuable complements traditional neuropsychological batteries.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on mental health in the general population. fear, stress, and uncertainty surrounding that traumatic period could have contributed to aggravation or possible new onset of obsessive–compulsive symptoms. Methods: COvid Mental hEalth Trial (COMET) is nationwide project organized by University Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, designed as an observational investigation aimed gather data from representative sample Italian current study report main it focuses (OC) Results: A total N = 20,720 took part survey. 2332 individuals Obsessive–Compulsive Inventory—Revised (OCI-R) score greater than equal 21 (11.3% entire sample), indicating presence clinically relevant By excluding patients with history previous illnesses, we still obtained high number OCI-R (N 2024), representing 10.3% overall sample, possibly incidence OC symptoms during pandemic. Discussion: Our highlights substantial public. Risk factors red flags such being male, working age, living highly stressful environment one regions most affected severely hit pandemic, having higher levels loneliness, using substances cope should be paid particular attention order prevent development critical event
