The insula is critical for integrating sensory information from the body with that arising environment. Although previous studies suggest posterior sensitive to sounds, auditory response properties of neurons have not previously been reported. Here, we provide first report a population human single neuron data and comparative primary cortex, recorded intracranially participants during passive listening. In each condition, more than 330 were in 11 participants. Almost third smaller subset anterior responded simple tones clicks. Responsive distributed throughout showed preferred frequency tuning. Onset latencies similar those cortex but durations significantly shorter. Overall, these highlight respond stimuli even non-behaviorally relevant contexts an important contribution audition postulated integrative functions insular cortex.
