Background: Rates of prescription drug abuse have reached epidemic proportions. Large-scale epidemiologic surveys this under-recognized clinical problem not included antidepressants despite their contribution to morbidity and mortality. The purpose review is look specifically at the misuse how behavior may fit into growing crisis nonmedical use drugs. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search on PubMed, Medline, PsycINFO using terms "antidepressant", "abuse", "misuse", "nonmedical use", "dependence", "addiction", as well individual antidepressant classes (eg, "SSRI") "fluoxetine") in various combinations, identify articles abuse. Results: A small but literature consists largely case reports. Propofol is a widely used intravenous anesthetic agent with rapid onset and short duration of action. While extensively utilized for sedation anesthesia, recent research has raised concerns regarding its impact on mental health, particularly addiction potential, hormonal effects, neuropsychiatric implications in individuals underlying neurological conditions. This review aims to examine the neurobiological, hormonal, psychiatric effects propofol focus mechanisms, role neurodevelopmental neurodegenerative syndromes, modulation stress- mood-related hormones, especially within healthcare landscape Saudi Arabia. A comprehensive literature was conducted, drawing from experimental studies, clinical trials, pharmacological analyses that explored propofol’s interaction dopamine pathways, hormone regulation, syndromes such as Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome (FXS), Tourette (TS). Propofol’s mesolimbic system transporter (DAT) contributes addictive properties. It alters responses by modulating GABAergic reducing stress levels cortisol epinephrine.
