Abstract Universities play a crucial role in social, economic, and technological development. Over the last decades, higher education systems have experimented with multiple transformations due to social demands, socioeconomic paradigms, external shakeouts. Even though teaching research are still core functions of universities, other activities emerging within/beyond universities’ scope boundaries configure “third mission.” Despite increasing importance third mission, little is known about dynamic capabilities underpinning configuration mission across systems. Using unique longitudinal dataset that captures German landscape from 2000 2016, we investigate effect teaching/research for achieving university (knowledge transfer technology commercialization). Our results reveal tensions between complementary substitution effects when pursuing three missions (teaching, research, knowledge commercialization), requiring managers’ policymakers’ strategic decisions. We provide implications managers community as well policymakers during re-configuration process becoming more entrepreneurial innovative, highlighting relevance effectively managing capabilities.

This research delved into the intricate causal relationships between Management Control Systems (MCS), Dynamic Capabilities (DC), Sustainable Performance (SP), and pivotal Open Innovation Strategy (OIS) within challenging context of COVID-19 pandemic. Employing a rigorous statistical analysis leveraging partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach, study meticulously examined model rigorously tested its hypotheses. The data harnessed for this investigation emanated from online surveys administered to executives managers affiliated with 3-star higher-rated hotels in southern Thailand, resulting sample size 151 respondents. outcome analysis, conducted at significance level 0.01, conspicuously underlined paramount role played by influencing closely trailed (DC) distinct order. These statistically significant results unequivocally corroborated acceptance all six hypotheses, which encapsulated interplay MCS DC, SP, OIS, as well SP. outcomes paint compelling picture, underscoring that face crises, strategic adoption open innovation strategies, complemented an effective management control system dynamic capabilities, empowers businesses effectively navigate endure crises while sustaining operational performance.

Purpose In the rapidly evolving digital economy, businesses face formidable pressures to maintain their competitive standing, prompting a surge of interest in intersection artificial intelligence (AI) and transformation (DT). This study aims assess impact AI technologies on corporate DT by scrutinizing 3,602 firm-year observations listed Shanghai Shenzhen stock exchanges. The research delves into extent which investments drive DT, while also investigating how this relationship varies based firms' ownership structure. Design/methodology/approach To explore influence employs robust quantitative methodologies. Notably, multiple validation techniques, including two-stage least squares (2SLS), propensity score matching an instrumental variable approach, ensure credibility its primary findings. Findings investigation provides clear evidence that can accelerate pace DT. Firms strategically investing experience faster enabled automation operational processes enhanced data-driven decision-making abilities conferred AI. Our findings confirm integration has significant positive propelling across firms studied.
