Phytosterols are widely distributed in various plant foods, such as nuts, grains, vegetables, and so on. have been broadly applied functional supplements, pharmaceutical products due to their excellent cholesterol-lowering effect. Besides the effect, recently, phytosterols found exert a beneficial effect on glycolipid metabolism, which contributes multiple metabolic diseases, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver. Constant development of new drugs with single target fails effectively curb occurrence diseases complications, organ damage, attract special attention varieties biological activities, especially regulation metabolism through targets. Present review gives comprehensive effects related mechanism. We also promising update phytosterol treatment two major including diabetes nonalcohol liver disease. This can help extend understanding potential for mixed dyslipidemia diseases.
