Nonsuicidal
self-injury
(NSSI)
has
received
global
academic
attention
in
recent
decades.
However,
little
is
known
about
NSSI
behavior
Bangladesh.
We
aimed
to
overview
Bangladesh
based
on
available
evidence.
PubMed,
Scopus,
Google
Scholar,
Google,
and
BanglaJOL
were
searched
identify
the
research
articles
published
with
search
terms.
Research
studies
assessing
among
Bangladeshi
citizens
living
Bangladesh,
English
language
included.
Ten
(cross-sectional

case-control

included
this
review
between
1984
2024
sample
sizes

The
majority
of
(n
=
7)
conducted
clinical
samples
(attended
for
medical
care).
Five
participants
only
nonsuicidal
intents.
prevalence
was
17%
students
40.2%

Self-cutting
(39%),
burning
(26%)

Family
conflict,
marital
discord,
premarital
affair

ABSTRACT
Background
Suicide
happens
due
to
a
complex
interaction
among
multiple
factors.
Hence,
prevention
strategies
should
consider
wider
range
of
personal
and
ecological
aspects.
It
is
an
underprioritized
public
health
problem
in
Bangladesh
where
risk
factors
for
suicide
have
been
poorly
studied,
there
no
national
strategy.
Therefore,
exploring
socioecological
aspects
suicidal
behavior
would
foster
the
country.
