Prevalence and correlates of suicide attempts in working-age, first-episode, drug-naïve major depressive disorder patients
Abstract
Suicide
attempts
are
a
critical
concern
among
first-episode,
drug-naïve
(FEDN)
patients
with
major
depressive
disorder
(MDD).
This
cross-sectional
study
investigated
the
prevalence
and
predictors
of
suicide
in
1701
working-age
Chinese
adults
(18–59
years)
FEDN
MDD.
Sociodemographic
data,
clinical
assessments,
biochemical
data
were
obtained.
Overall,
20.2%
participants
reported
lifetime
history
attempts.
Multiple
logistic
regression
identified
four
independent
attempts:
Hamilton
Anxiety
Scale
(HAMA),
global
impression
severity
scale
(CGI-s),
systolic
blood
pressure,
thyroid
peroxidase
antibody
levels.
Receiver
operating
characteristic
curve
analysis
further
highlighted
high
discriminative
ability
HAMA
CGI-s
for
predicting
Taken
together,
these
findings
underscore
importance
integrating
psychological
biological
markers
routine
risk
evaluation
MDD
patients.
Incorporating
assessment
anxiety,
autoantibody
may
enhance
early
detection
high-risk
individuals
inform
targeted
intervention
strategies.
