The versatility of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) has led to their integration into applications like biosensing, separation, environmental monitoring, and drug delivery technologies. This diversity resulted in a plethora synthesis approaches precisely tailor the materials’ properties specific demands. A critical, yet often overlooked, factor MIP is choice porogen. Porogens play pivotal role defining morphology, surface properties, swelling behavior, binding efficiencies resulting MIPs. While aprotic solvents have traditionally been standard molecular imprinting, recent developments expanded variety employed porogens accompanied by notable improvements performance. Therefore, this review aims highlight both traditional emerging types used influence on polymer sorption performance, application across various sensing extraction applications.
