Demographic interaction processes play a pivotal role during episodes of cultural diffusion between different populations, particularly when these can lead to competition for the same resources and geographic space. The farming is one prototypical case within this broader scenario, where groups incumbent hunter-gatherers occupied space which would later be claimed by expanding farmers. In work, we tackle such through two-population mathematical model, farmers foragers compete interact in We present work as conceptual approach where, first, assess implications our theoretical model its general applicability and, second, empirically test it on three studies: Denmark, Eastern Iberia, island Kyushu (Japan). While regional studies do not encompass full range observed migrant they provide reasonable variation illustrate how fitted diverse empirical data insights into demographic processes. particular, endogenous alone explain fluctuations archaeological record transition, highlighting should accounted before invoking external forces primary drivers.
