Fabrication of multifunctional ZnO@tannic acid nanoparticles embedded in chitosan and polyvinyl alcohol blend packaging film

The
current
study
explores
biodegradable
packaging
materials
that
have
high
food
quality
assurance,
as
deterioration
is
mostly
caused
by
UV
degradation
and
oxidation,
which
can
result
in
bad
flavor
nutrition
shortages.
Thus,
new
multifunctional
zinc
oxide
nanoparticles/tannic
acid
(ZnO@TA)
with
antioxidant
antibacterial
activities
were
incorporated
into
polyvinyl
alcohol/chitosan
(PVA/CH)
composite
films
different
ratios
(1%,
3%,
5%
based
on
the
total
dry
weight
of
film)
via
a
solution
blending
method

aqueous
solution.

Polyvinyl
alcohol
(PVA)
containing
different
levels
of
basic
fuchsine
(BF)
was
prepared
using
the
solution
casting
method.
Characterization
via
Fourier-transform
infrared
spectroscopy
detailed
changes
in
functional
groups
within
PVA/BF
composites,
indicating
hydrogen
bonding
between
OH
group
PVA
and
BF
molecules.
Optical
investigations
spanning
190–2500
nm
range
demonstrated
UV
blocking
properties
composites
(from
2.05
to
2.56
eV
from
4.08
6.32
eV).
Moreover,
studies
on
optical
band
gap
indicated
a
decrease
with
increased
concentrations,
reflecting
altered
electronic
transitions
composites.
The
study
also
employed
single
oscillator
model
provided
by
Wemple-DiDomenico
elucidate
refractive
index
variations.
After
incorporating
dye
into
polymer,
values
dielectric
constant
as
frequency
approaches
infinity
(
ε
∞
),
lattice
L
dispersion
energy
(E
d
o
)
composite
samples
showed
an
increase.
nonlinear
properties,
including
susceptibility
were
investigated

findings

versatility
