Abstract BACKGROUND Fluctuations in environmental conditions within fields and crop plant performance can greatly affect production quality standards. These factors are particularly relevant for producers, who require sustained optimal to profit from small margins. might be exacerbated at the end of season, where neither aforementioned optimal. In present integrated study, we assess strawberries' nutritional impact harvest timing, tunnel inter‐individual variability a Mediterranean divided into blocks, two harvests were performed 3 weeks apart. addition, effects sprayed melatonin productive season also evaluated. RESULTS End‐season harvesting negatively impacted fruit hydration, antioxidant capacity ripening‐related hormones strawberry fruits. Additionally, distribution influenced quality, with light radiation being main variable factor disturbing contents. Nutrients exhibited high variability, accounting 20% variation, strongly correlated hydration phytohormones. Finally, applications affected production, nor parameters, which masked by intrinsic variability. Overall, results underline limitations this type application field implementation. CONCLUSION Fruit variation is explained Likewise, implementation regulatory molecules such as relies on homogeneity have limited applicability heterogeneous systems. Consequently, identifying reducing microclimate paramount advancing agricultural practices uphold unwavering standards quality. © 2024 The Author(s).
